Biography of Ricardo Bastida

Ricardo Bastida (Bilbao, 1879-1953) was the architect who designed Bilbao's new Alhóndiga at the beginning of the 20th century – an atemporal space ahead of its time which implemented dialogue with the city, and is now back in the limelight once more. This was one of Bastida’s first projects, and his work was consolidated throughout his professional career by a large number of structures, particularly in Bilbao - Banco Urquijo, Deusto bridge and the bridge next to Bilbao Town Hall, Casa Lezama, Casa Cuna, Colegio Felix Serrano, the Torremadariaga residential block next to Germán Aguirre and Emiliano Amann, etc.- but also in Madrid - the offices of Banco de Bilbao and Banco Urquijo, for example.
